About Hawa Mahal

Hawa Mahal is one of the most recognizable landmarks of Jaipur and a symbol of Rajasthan’s royal heritage. Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, this magnificent five-story palace was designed by architect Lal Chand Ustad in the shape of Lord Krishna’s crown. Constructed using pink and red sandstone, Hawa Mahal beautifully reflects Rajput architecture blended with Mughal artistic influence.

The palace is famously known as the “Palace of Winds” because of its 953 small windows, called jharokhas, designed to allow cool air to circulate throughout the structure. These windows also enabled royal women to observe festivals and street activities without being seen by the public during the royal era.

Visitors admire the intricate latticework, carved balconies, arched windows, and panoramic views of Jaipur city from the upper floors. The monument looks especially stunning during sunrise when sunlight reflects beautifully on the pink sandstone façade. Its architectural beauty, historical significance, and cultural charm make Hawa Mahal one of Jaipur’s top tourist attractions.
